All children have a right to a home with loving people to care for them. But each year, millions of children in the U.S. are abused, neglected or abandoned by their families.
That's where CASA comes in...

CASA volunteers are Court-Appointed Special Advocates, trained community volunteers appointed by a Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge to advocate in court for children who are abused, neglected and otherwise in need of services. CASA volunteers offer children encouragement, stability and hope during a complex and critical time in their lives. |

Children in foster care deserve to have a safe and permanent home, appropriate education services and timely access to quality physical and mental healthcare. CASA volunteers are trained and supervised to advocate on behalf of their clients. CASA provides the opportunity to change the course of a child's life, by providing crucial information and knowledge that otherwise is overlooked when attorneys don't have the resources to fully investigate children's situations and judges, in turn, are left in the dark. The power of CASA's investigation and written reports to the Court is undeniable. No other professional can personalize these children the way a CASA volunteer can.
A 2005 National CASA survey of judges found that judges agree that the work of CASA Volunteers is high quality, beneficial to judicial decision-making and beneficial to the children and families served.
The Virginia Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention compiles statistics on the incidence of abuse and neglect in Virginia. We strongly encourage you take a look. Website: http://www.preventchildabuseva.org/
